Coming up in 2019

Am pleased to announce I’ll be playing at all 3 Rewind Festivals again this year. This will be my 4th year at Rewind and each year it just seems to go from strength to strength, so am really looking forward to being back there again. The dates are Rewind Scotland July 19th – 21st, Rewind North August 2nd – 4th and Rewind South Aug 16th – 18th. I’ll be in the ‘Cocktail and Keys’ tent (though probably doing my best to make it feel more like a ‘pub, pints and a piano’ tent :-) ).

I’m experimenting with using a smaller piano at the moment – a 6 octave Kemble – much lighter and more portable, which is especially useful for getting into care homes and smaller venues. However it doesn’t have quite such a bold sound as the big upright I’ve been using so I’m looking at ways to get a fuller sound out of it. Am experimenting with doping hammers and covering them with different materials – similar to the ‘tack pianos’ of old and the famous Mrs Mills piano at Abbey Road studios. The holy grail for me will be to have a small piano with a big sound, that’s what I’m aiming for.

Plenty of new songs coming along for the set list including more from the likes of Elvis, Queen, Elton, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, Billy Joel as well as plenty of early 80s classics.

Also this year I’m am developing a new act aimed at the street theatre market, which is very much where my roots in performing lie. I’ve built a casio keyboard into a 3 wheel mobility scooter and made it look like a toilet – as you do. I’m now working on the character, it’s looking very promising and I’ve had nothing but glowing comments from those that have seen it in development thus far, so fingers crossed I’ll be out ‘busking on the bog’ or playing the ‘keyboard khasi’ on a street near you soon.
